                DIVING INTO CULTURE!

Lately I have been travelling to what I would call less common touristic destinations. When I return my mother always asks the typical question "Did you like it?". She doesn`t understand how I can enjoy going on tiring trips, where I barely stop in a single place and lots of things are left to define has reality unfolds. I come back home tired but my soul is always filled with joy. I love mingling with the locals, diving in their culture and participating in their daily habits.

My last destination was Uzbekistan, a country of warm and friendly people located in Central Asia. Its magnificent Mausoleums, Mosques, Minarets and Madrasas are absolutely breathtaking and take us into a fascinating history of the Silk Road.

Khiva (which means drinkable water) was by far my favourite city. It´s a very peculiar mosaic of narrow alleyways that make visitors travel in time and it´s pretty easy to imagine what life might have been like some centuries ago because Khiva still keeps its own pace. I felt like Michael J. Fox since I returned from the future (nowadays) and had the chance to travel to the past. It´s hard to put into words... I can only say I felt goosebumps several times and I could hear some of my grandmother´s stories, as I looked into some faces or watched local people doing their daily chores.

I saw the most genuine smiles and felt that in fact you don´t need much to be happy. Happiness is found in simple things and less is definitely more!

We are tiny particles in this Universe...

When you were born and raised in a small island two things are most likely to happen: you fear  the world out there and find shelter inside your own shell or you soon realize you are a very tiny particle in this universe and are eager to find out more about the world you live in. I was fortunate, like a lot of islanders, to belong to the second group.

I began travelling by myself when I was around 6 or 7 because my father´s parents and siblings   emigrated to the USA when I was a year old. The desire to see my family, specially my grandmother made me overcome all language barriers and obstacles (back then we travelled in TWA. We had to stop in another island and the crew would basically speak English).

In this blog my purpose is to share all my travelling experiences since those days...
